Food waste in supermarkets

Overstocking, inadequate package sizes and seasonal products are just a few of the many examples of why supermarkets waste food. Luckily more than 8.500 supermarkets across Europe have already started fighting food waste along with consumers and Too Good To Go.

Fighting food waste with supermarkets

  • 8.500 supermarkets across Europe have signed up to fight food waste together with consumers via Too Good To Go
  • The number of saved meals from the supermarkets so far is 6.423.579
  • That amounts to over 16.059 tonnes of CO2 saved


The Case Study: Carrefour

Carrefour joined the Too Good To Go community on the 4th October 2017. Since then, the multinational retailer has saved 138.490 meals in total. So far in 2019, Too Good To Go helped them save 74.744 meals across their Carrefour megastores and their chains Carrefour City, Carrefour Market, Carrefour Bio, Carrefour Express, Carrefour Contact, Proxi, Carrefour Montagne, and Huit à 8. This converts to 318.527 kg of CO2 saved since 2017. Additionally, Carrefour has also further rolled out 153 franchise stores across Belgium since May 2018. Since then, Carrefour has managed to save 29.852 meals and avoided 74.630 kg of CO2  with Too Good To Go in less than a year!
