It’s Time for a Sense-Check
The Look, Smell, Taste label reminds us all to use our senses before tossing Best Before-labelled food, and is stamped on more than 5000 products across Europe.
Unlike Use By labels, Best Before labels indicate quality, not safety. Yet one in five Europeans will throw away food that has passed its Best Before, leading to unnecessary waste. This label is a reminder to trust your senses - if a Best-Before-labelled food has been stored correctly and looks, smells, and tastes okay, it’s perfectly safe to eat past the date.
