Surprise Seconds with Ziploc® brand

What is surprise seconds?
Together with Ziploc® Brand, we want to help make more of the food already in your kitchen – whether carried home from a restaurant or left over from a meal you cooked yourself.
We’re bringing together two complementary approaches to helping good food go further: Ziploc® Brand Bags provide food storage solutions that help keep food fresh, while the Too Good To Go apps helps consumers secure good food at a discount and partners with businesses to put surplus food to use. Surprise Seconds takes the next step, offering inspiration for turning saved food into something entirely new – making what comes next feel creative, craveable and worth looking forward to.

Why this matters
Canadians want to waste less—and a little inspiration can help
New research commissioned by Ziploc® Brand shows that Canadians care about avoiding food waste but knowing what to do with leftovers can still be a barrier.
- Almost every Canadian (97%) says avoiding food waste is important to them.
- Nearly one in three (33%) say they throw food away at least once a week.
- More than two in five (43%) have thrown food away that was still perfectly good because they did not know what to do with it.
- Only about one in three (34%) say they usually turn their leftovers into something new.
The research also highlights the value of simple, practical inspiration, with nearly one in four Canadians (26%) saying recipe ideas, lunch inspiration and better storage would help them make more of their leftovers.
The findings point to a simple opportunity: giving people more inspiration for what to do with the food they have already saved.
making GOOD FOOD go further
Surprise Seconds was created to spark that missing idea. Rather than treating leftovers and restaurant extras as a lesser repeat of yesterday’s meal, we will provide practical, craveable examples of how they can serve as the foundation for something entirely different.
wheel of sandwiches, TORONTO
The campaign will come to life in Toronto on Sept. 29 with Wheel of Sandwiches, an interactive food-truck experience led by chef Eric Chong.
At Wheel of Sandwiches, each landing spot features an original dish—a “first”—from a participating Too Good To Go restaurant partner. Visitors will spin the wheel to discover their “first,” then receive Chong’s corresponding “Surprise Second”: a sandwich inspired by and created from that restaurant’s dish.
