Too Good To Go, The World’s Largest Anti-Food Waste App, Arrives In Kildare

August 10, 2022

The world’s largest anti-food waste app, Too Good To Go, has expanded into Kildare.

Leading the food waste movement, Too Good To Go lets people buy surplus food and drink from restaurants, grocery stores, pubs, cafes and producers to stop it from going to waste.

Kildare locals can now download the free Too Good To Go app and search for their nearby store with unsold food. They simply then purchase a ‘Surprise Bag’ at a fraction of the original retail price, collect it at an allotted time and enjoy it.

There are already 14 Kildare food businesses signed up to fight food waste with Too Good To Go including popular names such as The Rolling Donut, Scón, Doyle’s Grocer and Shoda Market Cafe, with more joining every day.

Having first launched in Dublin last October, Too Good To Go has already amassed a community of over 800 partner businesses and 160,000 registered users who have collectively saved more than 100,000 Surprise Bags of food from going to waste.

Managing Director of Too Good To Go UK & Ireland, Sophie Trueman, comments,

“I’m thrilled to be launching Too Good To Go in Kildare. We’ve already seen a huge appetite for fighting food waste since we arrived in Ireland in October last year and I’m excited to see how much more of an impact we can have now we’ve finally arrived in Kildare. Saving food from going to waste really is a win-win-win; businesses can recover that otherwise sunk costs; consumers can rescue delicious and affordable food; and together, we’re all doing our part in tackling climate change one Surprise Bag at a time.”

Dominic Doyle, Owner of Doyle’s Grocers, has recently signed up to the app and says of his experience so far:

“We’ve partnered with Too Good To Go in Doyle's Grocers to continue our fight against food waste. Our main goal here is to be as sustainable as we possibly can; we use compostable materials for all our cups and bags and source environmentally friendly organic produce to showcase. No matter how careful we are, at the end of the day, you are always going to be faced with produce that cannot be sold, which was a big fear of ours. With Too Good To Go those fears have been eradicated. As soon as we downloaded the app, we had orders streaming in. It gives me great joy to know that food is not going to waste, and that people are getting to enjoy it”.

ABOUT TOO GOOD TO GO

Too Good To Go has a simple mission: to make sure all food gets eaten, not wasted.

In 2016, a group of entrepreneurs witnessed restaurant staff throwing away fresh food. The food’s only problem? It hadn’t sold in time, and no one was around to take it off the restaurant’s hands. The group pioneered a seamless solution: an app that lists businesses’ unsold food so local diners can find, buy and enjoy it.

Now, thousands of Surprise Bags are rescued from businesses such as supermarkets, restaurants, and bakeries every day. The success of the app powers Too Good To Go’s wider efforts to drive a food waste movement, working with schools, industries and governments to build a planet-friendly food system.
