Meet the London Markets leading the fight against food waste through partnering with Too Good To Go.A Waste Warrior's guide to London food markets
Ahh, London markets. A menagerie of art, shopping, and most importantly - food. Unfortunately, with all this glorious food comes a rather inglorious amount of food waste. But it doesn’t have to be that way. We’ve partnered with a bunch of epic food vendors across London markets that are tackling food waste head on.
Mercato Metropolitano, Elephant and Castle
Mercato Metropolitano (MM) is a space dedicated to minimising food waste - and we love it! The brainchild of Andrea Rasca, a food ambassador who’s worked in the field for more than 20 years, MM ensures that everything is as circular as possible: sustainably sourced, shared with loved ones and ultimately - good!
MM is committed to raising awareness around the food waste crisis, so loads of the incredible vendors make their unsold street food available on Too Good To Go. Rescue international delights that range from chilli beef nachos at Hermanos Taco House, to traditional curries at Indian Kitchen, or even a spicy sausage or two from German Kraft - and that’s just the start!
Rescue food from:
Old Spitalfields Market, Spitalfields
Right near Liverpool Street Station, Old Spitalfields Market is home to all kinds of incredible street food vendors. Your rescue mission to this hotspot could include saving a selection of probiotic salad bowls (um, yes please) from High Mood Food, vegetarian and vegan curries from Merkamo Ethiopian, or, if you want to tickle your sweet tooth, an insta-worthy cake from Konditor and Cook.
Rescue food from:
Greenwich Market, Greenwich
Greenwich Market is making a name for itself as a must-visit for street food fanatics. So basically a must-visit for everyone, right? These vendors aren’t just serving up epic food though, they're also fighting to end food waste. Rescue colourful vegan meals at Omni Collective and Veganauti. Or, go full carnivore with Chinese pork from Dragon & Panda and hot dogs from Pig Dogs and Brisket.
Rescue food from:
Sunday Upmarket, Brick Lane
Head to the Sunday Upmarket in the Old Truman Brewery on Brick Lane to find the food hall jam-packed with a smorgasbord of street food vendors, some of whom have joined the fight against food waste. Use the app to rescue a selection of salad boxes from Planet Falafel, curries from Ethiopiques, or nutella cinnamon swirls from Jack’s Bakery (yes please!).
Rescue food from:
Camden Market, Camden
Amongst the labyrinth of market stalls at Camden Market are a handful of vendors that have joined the fight against food waste.
