A Day in the Life of a Boston Sales Rep

A Day in the Life of a Boston Sales Rep

My name is Kimmi and I am a B2B Sales Representative at Too Good To Go in Boston, Massachusetts. I’m originally from a small town in central Minnesota but moved out east in August 2020 to join this great movement.

Today I’m excited to bring you along on a day in the life of a Waste Warrior.

8:15 AM: Unlike some of my more motivated colleagues who run every morning, I hear my 7:45 alarm, snooze three times (sometimes in my sleep) and then roll out of bed by 8:15.

I have two things that I am beyond excited to do every morning. First, I check which of my signed partners got activated in the app (which means that someone saved a meal from them for the first time), and how many more dots my team added to the Boston map. Next, I read the Morning Brew daily newsletter to stay caught up on all things news and business while devouring some delicious chocolate protein overnight oats.

9:00 AM: We start each morning as #oneteam with a kick-off call between the New York and Boston sales teams. Today we talked about the increasing numbers of app downloads and active stores - we are on track to hit our best week ever of 100 stores! I love this opportunity to connect and learn from each other.

10:00 AM: One of the things I love most about this job is the freedom I have to really make it my own. Today was a day of sales in the field spreading the word about Too Good To Go and signing up new food establishments to join us in our movement to fight food waste.

Since the neighborhood I planned for today is further away, I hopped in my car to drive. I am a very type-A person, and always have a full day planned before heading out. This consists of about 15-20 places mapped out along with the best places to park.

“Kimmi. You got this.” → “Let’s GO!”

Anyone who knows me knows that driving is not my favorite activity, so still unsure if the daily motivation and pep talks are needed for the sales aspect or the driving

12:00 PM: For lunch today I got offered some great food from Spettus Steakhouse in Quincy. Just another perk of working with wonderful local businesses. I love finding new spots in the neighborhood to sit and take a short break.

During lunch, I open Slack and catch up on internal messages, respond to emails, make a few phone calls to potential partners, or just enjoy the Boston views before heading back out in the field.

2:00 PM: Since I was near a partner with an afternoon pick-up time, I grabbed a Surprise Bag from Al’s Cafe. It was an entire bag of warm sandwich bread, which I handed out to homeless people throughout Boston. “We Care” is one of our core values at Too Good To Go, and I try to live it out each day.

3:00 PM: Craving a little friendly interaction, I decided to call up one of my teammates. We both shared stories from our day and bounced around some questions.

Despite being new to the city, and working in field sales without a traditional office culture, I have not felt alone since joining the Too Good To Go family. My favorite value is “We Fight Together” and we really do! The company often encourages us to pair up in the field, which leads to such productive and positive days.

Team work makes the dream work!

4:00 PM: I start to head back home to log all of the day’s activities in Salesforce. Those of you with sales experience know, “if it’s not in Salesforce, it didn’t happen.” I use voice memos on my phone to take notes throughout the day to make sure I never miss important details from the conversations with stores and also tell my future self a little “hello.”

5:30 PM: I wrap up the day with a Boston team call, where we all share our highs and lows of the day. #FightTogether

After getting lightly roasted for my Minnesota pronunciation of Massachusetts cities from my team, I make a few more calls to places that open later in the evening, log any last-minute Salesforce notes, and prepare a solid plan for tomorrow.

"Reading” pronounced “red-ing” ?! And don’t even get me started on “Worcester” or “Gloucester”

7:00 PM: As with many millennials, my evening consists of a run and pizza with wine, because life is all about balance. I make my overnight oats for tomorrow and then jump into Shondaland with my friends Annalise, Meredith, and Olivia (IYKYK) and have myself a night.

Thanks for following along with my day. I hope it provided some insight into the exciting lifestyle of a Too Good To Go Waste Warrior. I am so fortunate to work for a company where I’m able to feel so passionate about my daily tasks, it allows the simple activities to turn into a greater mission.
